Non-destructive testing: what they are and what they are used for

Non-destructive testing (NDT) is represented by a wide variety of examinations that do not involve the alteration of the piece or its destruction, such as magnetic particle inspection, visual examination, and radiography.

This special type of test is carried out not only on the finished product but is also an effective monitoring process in the intermediate stages of production. Each component is carefully controlled throughout the manufacturing process to comply with precise quality standards.

Non-destructive testing in precision machining

Non-destructive testing is an essential step to obtain the highest quality from any mechanical processing. The goal is to ensure that the component exactly meets the customer’s needs and complies with quality and safety requirements.

Controls such as ultrasound examination, visual inspection, and dimensional control are therefore fundamental phases in order to guarantee the reliability of the products.

Dimensional check, liquid penetrant test, magnetic or ultrasound examination: the evaluation of the finished product passes through different types of tests which depend on the type of material, the stresses to which the piece will be subjected, and the context in which it will be used. The inspection test plan (ITP) therefore defines the mandatory examinations to be carried out on the product to adhere to the customer’s specifications.

At Covis Group we are committed to achieving high production standards by implementing rigorous quality control of our products, even in the presence of inspectors and third parties to guarantee maximum transparency.
